Men and women have always been fond of adorning themselves with neck pieces since time immemorial. In fact in ancient times, some tribes and ethnic groups use it as symbols of social or authoritative status. Today, necklaces are collected mainly for adornment on special occasions or for everyday use.
As the technology and tools advances, the styles and designs of neck pieces have also evolved but vintage necklaces always come back to become the present trend in fashion accessories. With the exception of fashion accessory collectors and designers who are experts in eying jewel pieces, some fashion aficionados find it hard to determine whether a certain necklace is vintage or not.
The category under which a certain neck adornment will qualify as antiquated is rather limitless. It encompasses certain time eras, different culture and traditions, and diverse social classes. Looks like one has to get a good background of archaeological history for him or her to identify which neckpiece is classical and which one is not!
Not really. In essence, a neckpiece can be qualified as vintage when it possesses certain qualities and characteristics that bring one’s memory and feelings back to a certain period in history. The date by which the necklace or the material is made is actually irrelevant but the emphasis is given more on the overall appearance of the object.
Thus, antediluvian necklaces don’t necessarily have to be made from or embellished with items that can be dated back to your great-great-grandmother’s youth or the pre-historic times (though it would be nice to possess something as old as that). It can be made from different materials such as precious stones, gold, silver or base materials like wood, glass beads, corals, feathers, etc., which are woven or crafted together to make a necklace that looks old-fashioned or related to certain racial or ethnic culture and tradition.
In the world of fashion, vintage necklaces are always “in”. For example, if you are out to shop for a pearl necklace that qualifies as vintage, look for something that brings you back to a certain period of time like your grandma’s younger days.
